Are you in need of packing and shipping an electric scooter but worried about the possibility of it arriving damaged? Whether you need to return, exchange, repair, or transport your scooter to another location, it's necessary to pack it properly to prevent damage during shipment.

Not only does securely packing your electric scooter reduce the risk of damage during transit, but it also ensures that your scooter remains protected from scratches, dents, and other potential harm.

This process can seem challenging, but with the right tips and tricks, it can be a hassle-free experience. In this article, we'll provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to pack and ship your electric scooter safely and securely. This gives you peace of mind knowing it will arrive at its destination unscathed.

    Packing Materials Required

To pack and ship an electric scooter safely, you will need the following:

    shipping box for electric scooters

    • Shipping Box: It’s always best to use the original box that comes with your electric scooter. The packing materials and thickness of the cardboard are designed specifically for the scooter, so they will keep everything well protected. If not, you'll need a sturdy shipping box that is large enough to accommodate it.
    • Styrofoam/Handi Foam/Bubble Wrap: The scooter is often secured with styrofoam inserts, cardboard blocks, and plastic wrappings. Use foam padding to protect your electric scooter from scratches and damage during transportation. Ensure that the components fit snugly, and there is no room for them to move around. Use additional foam padding or bubble wrap to fill any gaps.
    • Packing Tape: You'll need strong packing tape to seal the shipping box securely. The last thing you want is for your beloved electric scooter to slip out during transit due to weak or non-sticky tape. Make sure you use a tape that can handle the job and keep your electric scooter safe and secure during shipping.
    • Shipping Label: It's important to label the shipping box as fragile and include any necessary shipping labels or instructions. Do remember to remove the old shipping label if you are using the original packaging.

a tool to disassemble the electric scooter parts

    • Tools: Some electric scooters require assembly, and will need to be disassembled to properly fit back into the box. If your electric scooter model has detachable parts that were not installed during shipping, such as the battery or handlebars, make sure to remove and package them inside the box for shipping (as shown in the example in the video).
    • Charger/Accessories: If you are shipping your electric scooter for a return or exchange, it must include all of the components that came with it, like the charging adapter, multitool and other included accessories.

    How Pack an Electric Scooter

Follow these simple steps to pack your electric scooter safely for shipping:

Step 1: Clean Your Electric Scooter

Start by cleaning your electric scooter thoroughly. Wipe down the surfaces with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris that could scratch or damage your scooter during shipment. Ensure that it's completely dry before moving on to the next step.

Step 2: Fold Your Electric Scooter

Folding the electric scooter down is the only way to fit it in the box for shipping. All stand-up electric scooters have a folding mechanism that allows them to be compact and easy to transport. On the other hand, seated electric scooters may have components that can be removed or folded but the frame generally does not fold.

For folding, the process usually involves releasing a locking mechanism and collapsing the stem towards the deck of the scooter. Some scooters also have folding handlebars, so it can be narrower during shipment.  However, it's essential to note that the folding process differs from model to model. It's important to follow the user manual to avoid damaging the scooter or risking injury while folding it.

Step 3: Place Your Electric Scooter in the Box

Place the foam and/or cardboard inserts where needed, then place the electric scooter in the box, making sure it is centered and straight. If the scooter has a kickstand, make sure it is not kicked out or detached from the deck. Next, put in the detachable parts of your scooter, fitting them into the available space. Ensure that the components fit snugly, and there is no room for them to move around during transport. Use additional foam padding or bubble wrap to fill any gaps. Remember to include any accessories, like the scooter charger, that come with the scooter.

Step 4: Seal and Label the Box

Seal the shipping box with a strong tape

Once the electric scooter is securely in place, close the box and seal it with strong packing tape, ensuring that all seams are securely taped. Make sure to label the box as fragile and add any necessary shipping labels or instructions.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your electric scooter is securely packed and ready for safe transportation.

How to Ship an Electric Scooter

Now that you've packed your electric scooter safely, it's time to ship it to its destination. Here are a few tips on how to ship your electric scooter:

    • Choose a reputable shipping company that offers insurance for the package. This will help cover any damage that may occur during transportation. We recommend using UPS. Choose the shipping method that's most convenient and cost-effective for you. When shipping your electric scooter, ensure that you follow the shipping carrier's guidelines for package weight and size.

    • Check and ensure that the shipping box is clearly labeled as fragile and includes any necessary shipping labels or instructions.
    • If possible, opt for express shipping to reduce the transit time and minimize the risk of damage during transportation. You can also purchase shipping insurance, to cover the expenses if the package is damaged.
    • It is recommended to take a photo of the package with the shipping label and tracking number

    Returns and Exchanges
