Can an electric scooter fit in your trunk? Yes, they often fit - but it depends on the scooter and the vehicle! In this article with video demonstration, we'll show you how electric scooters can fit in different types of cars, including a sedan, coupe, and SUV.
We’ll also provide tips on how to pack your electric scooter safely and efficiently for transport. So, no matter if you're planning a weekend getaway or want to throw your e-scooter in the trunk to explore a new location, read on to find out how to make it happen!
Why would you need to transport an electric scooter in a car? There are a variety of reasons why you might want to bring your scooter along. For example, you may use your scooter as a last-mile solution and want a more sustainable, convenient option for shorter journeys.
If you work at a location where parking is limited and expensive or heavily congested with traffic, a scooter allows you to park further away and ride to your destination. Some riders like to take their scooters off-roading or for group rides, and will need to load them into a vehicle to drive further distances.
You may also get stuck doing the walk of shame when your battery dies, and need to know if your scooter can fit in the trunk of the rideshare that you order. Besides, electric scooters are a fun and convenient way to explore a new place, and simply enjoy the outdoors!
As demonstrated in our video, we attempted to place each electric scooter in the trunk of three different types of vehicles: a coupe, a sedan, and an SUV. In the video, we used a BMW 2 Series (coupe), Honda Accord (sedan), and Toyota Highlander (SUV).

The Cruiser S is our most portable long-range electric scooter, with quick-folding handlebars, a telescoping stem, and foldable design – along with a 62-mile range. It weighs 52 lbs and the stem locks in the folded position, making it easy for one person to lift and stow the scooter in the trunk or backseat of a coupe, sedan, or SUV.
With compact folded dimensions, you wouldn’t expect the EMOVE Cruiser S to hit 33 mph top speed, but it does! It also has turn signals, a headlight, horn, and key for safety and security. Even if you don’t plan to stow it in your car, the Cruiser S is the perfect commuter scooter if you live and work in a busy city. The Cruiser S is an excellent adult e-scooter if you want something small but powerful that can fit in a trunk, alongside your desk, or underneath seats on a bus.
Like the Cruiser, the Mantis King GT has a foldable design with a clip that anchors the handlebars to the deck. This makes it easier to carry the scooter when folded. Although both of these scooters have sine wave controllers that provide smooth acceleration, the Mantis King has a higher top speed of 43 mph.
When it comes to transporting it, this luxury commuter scooter is longer and heavier than the Cruiser S and its predecessor, the Mantis Pro SE. The handlebars on the Mantis do not fold, so the 26” width makes it too big to throw in the trunk of a coupe – unless you remove the handlebars for transport. The Mantis King GT will fit in most sedans and SUVs, and is a stellar long-range machine.
The RoadRunner V2 is surprisingly compact for a seated electric scooter. It has a removable battery and folding handlebars, making it lighter and narrower for transport. The 55-lb weight is manageable for one person to pick up and load into a trunk. It’s also faster than e-bike lookalikes with a 34 mph top speed.
Unlike the other scooters in this list, the frame of the RoadRunner is more akin to a bicycle, with larger 14” tires and a built-in seat. Surprisingly, the RoadRunner is compact enough to fit in the trunk of a coupe, sedan, and SUV. If you want a fast seated vehicle and don’t want to hitch a bike rack to your car to bring it with you, the RoadRunner is the perfect option.
The Wolf King GT is not known for being portable. Its 115-lb weight and long body make it difficult to load in a vehicle by yourself. It does not have folding handlebars and the folding mechanism is a bit complicated, so it’s not the best option if you need to quickly load your ride.
However, the King has been crowned the fastest electric scooter; it hits a legit 63 mph, so many owners are willing to shoulder its weight. The King GT fits in the boot of a coupe or SUV, but does not fit in a sedan unless the rear seat has been moved forward. You might lose seats for passengers, but gain space for your beast scooter. If you’re looking for a stand-up motorcycle that can also fit in your trunk, the Wolf King GT is the one.
Before loading your electric scooter, it's important to measure the interior of your car to ensure that the e-scooter will fit properly. This is especially crucial if you have a smaller car or limited trunk space.
The width of the trunk should be measured first, followed by the depth from the back of the seat to the end of the trunk. Additionally, take into account the height of the interior of the car, since some electric scooters can be rather tall when folded down. By taking the time to measure your car's interior, you can ensure that your electric scooter will fit safely and securely, and you can avoid any potential damage to your car or e-scooter.
Folding your electric scooter is usually the quickest and easiest way to fit it into a car. This is one of the key benefits of foldable e-scooters, as they don’t take up much space in your trunk. Because they’re fairly small when folded, you can usually still fit a duffel, boxes, shopping bags, or other things that you need to bring with you.
Most electric scooters are built with a deck to stand on, and a folding mechanism on the frontend of the scooter. Each model folds down a little differently.
For example, the EMOVE Cruiser S has a pull-release knob, so is very quick to fold down. When folded, the stem locks in place, so you can lift it very easily. It's also small enough for people of most sizes to handle by themself.
The Wolf King GT, on the other hand, has a complicated mechanism involving a locking pin and release lever. The handlebars do not lock to the deck, so it’s easiest for two people to lift this scooter: one at the frontend and one at the backend.
If you absolutely must load this scooter by yourself, you should protect the fender with a blanket or rubber mat, and rest the frontend on the lip of the trunk, rolling it until the backend is fully inside your car.
The ease of folding is reflective of the scooter’s capability and how you plan to use it. The Wolf King GT is capable of traveling at nearly twice the speed of the Cruiser S – so the fortified folding mechanism is a necessity. The Cruiser S is designed for long-range riding in a compact build, so folds quickly.
However, if your electric scooter is too big to fit in your car even when folded, or if you need to transport multiple items as well, you might be able to disassemble some parts of the e-scooter. Oftentimes that can make it easier to fit everything you need in your trunk.
For example, the RoadRunner is a little lighter to handle if you remove the battery, and can fit narrower widths if you remove the handlebars during transport. It’s pretty easy to remove the handlebars with a multitool, releasing them from the scooter’s neck. Since they fold, you should be able to tuck the handlebars alongside the scooter.
When transporting an electric scooter in your car, it’s ideal to load it in the trunk. You can avoid damaging the upholstery on your seats if you keep your scooters in the trunk. Also, this keeps your backseat space free for passengers or other items that you want to bring with you, but don’t want to stow in the trunk.
Once you’ve placed it in the trunk, make sure to secure the scooter. That way, it does not move during the car ride. The last thing that you want is your scooter sliding around and getting damaged.
One way to secure the electric scooter is by using bungee cords or straps to hold it in place. Make sure to attach the cords or straps to secure points in your car, such as the anchors in the trunk. Some scooter owners take matters a bit more seriously, and handcraft stands to keep the scooter from rocking back and forth when folded.
It's also important to position the scooter in a way that it won't tip over or damage any other items in your car. Double-check the security of the electric scooter before hitting the road, and adjust the cords or straps if needed. By taking the time to secure your electric scooter properly, you can ensure safe transportation.
Electric scooters are designed to be compact, and most easily fit in the trunk of a car. However, with many designs and higher-performance specifications, some models are better suited for transporting than others. It may seem like a daunting task to fit some electric scooters in a car. But, with the right approach, it can be a relatively simple and stress-free process. By measuring the interior of your car, determining whether to fold or disassemble the e-scooter, and securing it properly, you'll be able to enjoy the convenience and flexibility of taking your electric scooter wherever you go.
We hope that today’s demonstration of putting different types of electric scooters in a car is helpful to you. Remember to take your time and the necessary precautions before hitting the road. Additionally, don't hesitate to seek professional advice if you have any concerns. So go ahead, pack up and have a safe ride!
